Some of frequently asked questions we receive
1. Are shin pads recommended?
For 11-aside - yes, they are mandatory!
For 7 aside - Whilst shin pads are recommended, many players do not use them. We do have a no sliding rule in place account for this. Football boots or sneakers are fine (but please note if the ground is wet, sneakers might be slippery).
2. Is there a limit in team size?
7aside: we normally suggest 12 players, including 5 subs to ensure that players get enough game time. The Venue Manager (VM) has the right to allow for more players if they deem that's appropriate. The VM's decision is final
11aside: no limit
3. How long are the games?
7aside: 38 minutes (19 min halves)
11aside: 80 minutes (40 min halves)
4. Do you need formal training to become a Better Football referee?
While formal training is great, training is provided. Please note all referees need to bring their own whistle.
5. What are the cut off dates for entering into competitions?
Normally cut off dates are 4-5 days before the start of the tournament, unless the grade is full beforehand. We usually post a Facebook reminder when registrations are about to close.
6. Can teams organise a payment plan if they can't make the season payment upfront?
We do have this option, please email arina@betterfootball.co.nz to organise a payment plan.
7. Do you have your Playing Rules & Regulations listed anywhere?
We do, please click here.
8. For mixed teams, how many females must be on the pitch at all times?
